SUMMARY:RMAG: NON-CONVENTIONAL GEOMECHANICS FOR UNCONVENTIONAL RESOURCES
DESCRIPTION:SHORT COURSE\nNON-CONVENTIONAL GEOMECHANICS FOR UNCONVENTIONAL RESOURCES\nDecember 12\, 2023\, 8:00 AM to 4:00pm\, December 13\, 2023\, 8:00am to 4:00pm\nDenver Earth Resources Library \n730 17th Street\, B1\, Denver\, Co\nCourse Instructor: Dr. Hamed Soroush\nAbout this Course\nNowadays\, unconventional resources of gas have been brought into the forefront of the energy future due to the increase in demand of hydrocarbon and decline of production from conventional reservoirs. Due to low permeability of shale gas reservoirs\, production at commercial level requires conducting horizontal drilling technology and applying effective hydraulic fracturing. Therefore\, successful production from such complex reservoirs is heavily dependent on the stress regime and requires sufficient geomechanical analyses. \nGeomechanics is an essential component of production from both conventional and unconventional reservoirs; however\, geomechanics for unconventional resources is to some extend different from conventional reservoirs due to intricacy imposed by inelastic matrix behavior\, stress sensitivity\, existence of cleats and natural fractures\, rock rheology\, and different pressure-temperature environments. This course discusses the geomechanical aspects of unconventional resources and how it adds value to the development of this type of reservoirs. \nSee the full course content below. \nWho will teach\nDr Hamed Soroush is an internationally recognized geomechanics expert with extensive experience in different applications of rock mechanics in oil and gas\, geothermal and CCS projects. He has conducted or managed more than 300 consulting and research projects worldwide. Dr Soroush is the CEO of TEVERRA based in Atlanta\, GA. Prior to that\, he held various positions with companies such as Dong Energy\, Shell\, PDVSA\, Weatherford\, Senergy\, GMI\, and CSIRO in different locations globally. Hamed holds BSc in Mining Engineering\, MSc in Rock Mechanics and PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Curtin University of Technology in Australia. He has given different industry short courses for SPE\, AAPG and EAGE and has served as steering committee on several SPE and EAGE conferences and workshops. He served as SPE Distinguished Lecturer for the 2012-2013\, 2017-2018\, and 2020-2021 programs. \nWho should attend\n\nDrilling\, reservoir\, completion\, exploitation\, and production engineers\nGeoscientists\, geologists\, geophysicists\, and petrophysicists\nField development managers\, technical advisors\, core lab personnel\n\nWhat you will learn\nThis is an interactive course including three modules: Geomechanical Modeling\, wellbore stability and hydraulic fracturing. In the first part\, the importance of geomechanics in the development of unconventional resources will be discussed. Constructing 1D to 4D geomechanical models using geology and drilling information\, well logs and core data from off-set wells is the major part of this section of the course. How to calibrate and validate the model with regional stress and rock strength data will also be discussed. The second part focuses on chemical wellbore stability analysis and drilling risk identification/mitigation. The last section discusses hydraulic fracturing design and modeling\, and completion design optimization. The differences between geomechanical analysis in conventional and unconventional reservoirs will be explained and special attention will be paid to rock anisotropy. The last part of the course will be an interactive hands-on session constructing a geomechanical model using Excel. \nWhat you will receive\nParticipants in the course will receive: \n\nA detailed course manual including all presented material\nWorkbook and Excel sheets with Case Studies\nUp-to-date reference lists on all topics covered in the course\nCollection of Relevant Technical Papers\n\nRegistration Details\n\n$400 for Members\n$500 for Non Members (not a member? join today)\n\nRegistration Closes December 8th \nRefunds for the December 12th and 13th course are only available until November 28th. \n\nIf you are unable to attend\, your registration for all RMAG events are transferable. RMAG members may transfer their registration to another RMAG member\, and non-members can transfer their registrations to whomever they wish. Should an RMAG member wish to transfer their registration to a non-member\, the non-member would need to pay the balance between the member and non-member price.
